Product Description
The poppy is a plant of great antiquity that is native to the eastern Mediterranean over to central Asia. The plant has been cultivated since ancient times for opium (a narcotic latex that oozes from the unripe seed pods) and for its seeds (which have no narcotic properties). Known for its lightly nutty, sweet aroma and somewhat almond-like flavor, poppy seeds are rich in protein and used in a range of dishes from bake goods to vegetables.
