Product Description

Saffron is the dried stigmas of the saffron crocus plant. A plant native to the Mediterranean and western Asia, it was initially used by ancient civilization as a dye as well as a flavor for food and wine. Because it takes a massive amount of crocus to yield just a small amount of stigmas, which in turn yields an even smaller amount of saffron (e.g. 800,000 crocus= 5 pounds of stigmas= 1 pound of saffron), saffron is not a cheap spice to come by.

This 23.5" multi-strand necklace is composed of deep red seed beads and red glass beads and finished with a brass spiral pendant (2.75" wide).
